Home Pizza Makers Can Now Bake Authentic Pizzeria Style Pizzas by Utilizing the New Pizza Paddle Board by Happy Home Basics

A pizza peel or pizza paddle as it’s sometimes referred to, is an authentic Italian tool that professional pizza makers use to slide the prepared pizza crust into a hot oven or onto an oven stone for baking.

This popular baker’s tool is also used for removing pizzas and flat breads from a hot oven safely and helps keep the crust with all it’s toppings intact. The long handle keeps hands away from the extreme heat and allows the baker to place the food further back in the oven than what could normally be reached.

Professional pizza maker’s often use the paddle’s surface to prep their crust with favorite toppings before sliding onto the oven stone or a BBQ grill. Quality pizza peels have a beveled edge so they can smoothly scoop up the pizza to remove from the oven when it’s finished baking. (more…)

A Pizza Peel Makes Grilling Pizzas Easy

Have you ever tried grilling a pizza on your backyard BBQ only to get singed by a hot grate?

Sliding your prepared pizza onto a hot grill with a pizza peel eliminates this problem.

What is a Pizza Peel?

What is a pizza peel, you might ask? Generally, pizza peels are made of wood in the shape of a large paddle with a long handle. The handle is long enough to allow you to slide your pizza in and out of a hot oven while keeping your hands away from any hot surfaces.

A commercial pizzeria may use a longer handled pizza paddle or peel which allows the baker to reach farther back into the larger restaurant oven. For home use the longer handles are not practical and make storage of the peel difficult. The weight of the longer handled, larger peels are also more challenging to lift and maneuver.

Wood Pizza peels designed for home use can also double as a cutting board after the pizza is finished baking and removed from the oven.

Most baker’s that make homemade pizza dough from scratch also prepare the crust with sauce, cheese and toppings right on the peel before sliding it into the hot oven.

Note: To keep the dough from sticking the peel is usually coated with cornmeal first. Sometimes semolina, a course pasta flour, is used instead.
